ANTHRAX Drummer Talks About His Fascination With 'Star Wars' Movies

ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante recently spoke to StarWars.com about his fascination with the "Star Wars" movies.

"I remember going to see ['Episode IV: A New Hope'] with my older sisters and cousins," Benante recalls. "We waited in a long line and that kinda made the experience that much better. It felt like an event, like a concert. When I left the theatre I was hooked! Everything was 'Star Wars' at that point.

"If you were a kid and saw them back in the day, then you hold them up high," Benante explains. "They take you back to a time and place that was genuine. You had a hero or two to look up to on the screen. Han Solo was a space cowboy — a real movie hero. And his sidekick was a walking rug! I wish I had a Wookiee!

"'Star Wars' touches something with everyone, good vs. evil, life and death and of course, love," Benante explains. "These are all things we can relate to. It doesn't matter that it is set in the future or past, the emotions are still the same. There was nothing like 'Star Wars' before it. This set the bar — nobody attempted something like this. George Lucas took a big chance, and won. I think it's a bit like life imitating art."
